SZA shocked followers after claiming she was formally identified with what she described as “Asperger’s/excessive functioning autism” on social media.
Asperger’s? I didn’t know that was a factor nonetheless.
SZA could have simply answered a query that we’ve got puzzled about for years. Or possibly she opened up a complete new dialog.
Out of nowhere she broke out with a candid social media submit claiming she was “formally identified” with what she described as “asbergers / excessive functioning autism.” In true SZA style, there was humor, confidence and she or he gave a little bit of chaos.
“Lastly took the time n obtained formally identified .. asbergers / excessive functioning autism / smarter than u n##### so cease taking part in in my face trigger sample recognition informed me and I WILL get to the underside if it thanks . fairly certain that is why I’m taking Ai so personally btw lol. By the way in which, @notmusicatalliswear is the Instagram burner account operated by SZA and she or he used that account to make this announcement.
It marks the primary time SZA has publicly shared receiving such a “formal” analysis, although it has been talked about up to now. Of us try to separate this revelation from the singer’s oft-weird humorousness. These two issues can co-exist when SZA is speaking. We have no idea, and but there’s one other facet to it.
The timing can also be fascinating, as a result of it offers with AI. Synthetic intelligence has a severe debate in music. SZA has been going off within the chat over AI and now she appears to have a special perspective. She joked her her analysis could clarify why she has taken the AI dialog so personally. Hmph.
All of this might add one other how we see her perspective. We have to keep in mind autism spectrum dysfunction is a medical analysis and Asperger syndrome an older time period that’s now known as autism spectrum.
It might be time for a bigger dialog about neurodiversity in Hip-Hop and R&B. I dunno – we’ll see.
